Spotlight on Mudpuppy Farm

Joining our market for their first time are the veteran husband and wife team, Daryl and Terrilyn Twigg, of Mudpuppy Farm in Bucksport, Maine. Their small, family farm became a reality in May, 2019 when they added a group of Mallard ducks purchased locally at Lally Broch Farm. Growing up in England, Daryl always loved visiting parks and feeding the ducks there. Terrilyn is a Bucksport native who grew up surrounded by farm animals and especially enjoyed the ducks because of their unique personalities. They had raised ducks in the past, but had been without duck companions for about 10 years as life took them in various directions. Once they settled into Terrilyn's family-land, they knew that they needed ducks back in their lives. Less than a year later, they care for 25 ducks, which now include Black Swedish, Mallards, and Muscovies. They also added seven Guinea Hens and are loving their noisy, silly presence in their lives.

Mudpuppy Farm is focused on bringing the Bucksport Bay Farmer's Market the highest quality, free range ducks eggs. Specialty guinea eggs may also be available depending on season and how their birds choose to lay. The Twiggs raise their animals as naturally as possible, providing nutritious feeds, plenty of sunshine, fresh water and clean housing. To match their natural rhythms, they don't supplement light, forcing egg laying during the winter; instead their well-loved birds take a break from laying and are pampered through Maine's cold winter months.

"Just Add Tequila" Soaps, curing
The Twiggs have their eyes on the future. They have recently purchased two dairy does and their kids as the start of their dairy herd. Their does, Liesl and Pita, are often featured in their FB page feed as are the antics of their bucklings, Gunther and Kinder. Terrilyn has been developing her line of goat's milk soaps and will be using her own herd's goat milk in her soaps. Scents like: Dragon's Mead, Goat Ashore and Just add Tequila are sure to delight your senses as they clean your person. :)

Terrilyn and Daryl are looking forward to meeting you at the market this season. If you don't want to wait that long, please visit their website and check out their full line of fantastic products.

Looking Forward to 2020 Farmer's Market Open Day!

A new season is upon us and 2020's Bucksport Bay Farmer's Market is shaping up to be our best market year yet! A change in market oversight from the Chamber of Commerce to the Farmers themselves has given us a chance to be more involved in all aspects of hosting our local market. Good things are growing; including us! We have 12 farmers and craft vendors committed to begin this year's market, with a goal of growing to more than 20 as the season progresses. Our market will still be a member of the Chamber of Commerce and it's new Board Members, Director, and staff have been helpful with this transition. As we are planning our market's season, we hope for your continued support, too.

Our mission is to sustain a place for small family farms, homesteads and hearths and talented artisans, makers, and musicians to come together within our community. Several of our farms are veteran-owned, including returning Fields of Fire Farm and new vendor, Mudpuppy Farm. Our participation in SNAP and the Maine Federation of Farmer's Markets "Harvest Bucks" program help the most vulnerable of our community to purchase fresh, healthy, and organic foods for our families. Exciting things are planned for 2020, including the return of our popular Chips & Salsa Contest and a Live Reptile exhibit, live musicians, a seed swap event, and more!

We hope to see YOU and your family at the Farmer's Market!
